What’s So Important About Connecting to a Bible Study Group?
Connecting to God’s people in a Bible
Study Group at CrossPoint allows followers of Christ to develop in their
faith in ways that are virtually impossible otherwise. God made us to
live in community with each other. God designed us to need each other.
Plus, God best reveals certain aspects of his character through our
interpersonal relationships. Every believer needs a real connection to
God’s people to enjoy all that God has created him or her to be.
In learning to be a follower of Jesus, we connect to God through Jesus in three very important but distinct ways.
1. We connect to God through a genuine relationship with Jesus, and we express our connection to God in worship.
2. We connect to God’s people for fellowship and encouragement.
3. We connect to God’s plan to serve others through ministry and missions.
best way to connect to God’s people at CrossPoint is by actively
participating in a Sunday morning Bible Study Group. In four vital
ways, each of these groups aid our development as followers of Jesus.
Study Groups study God’s word together. They vigorously and
prayerfully study the Bible to understand what God is saying to us. “Do
your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has
no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy
Bible Study Groups provide encouragement. Individuals who
are involved in a group support each other through prayer, a listening
ear, friendship, and helping each other grow in their relationship with
Jesus. “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good
works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but
encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing
near.” Hebrews 10:24-25
Bible Study Groups offer real
fellowship. Involvement in a Bible Study Group provides the opportunity
to have fun with other Christ-followers, to celebrate together and
share good times. But fellowship also includes helping each other
through the tough times, having the support of friends, and knowing
these friends are there for you when you need them. “But if we walk in
the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7
Study Groups are characterized by love. When connected to a Bible
Study Group, people are accepted for who they are. They are loved
because God created them in his image and Jesus died for them on the
cross. This love we have received from God is the motivation for all
our interaction in our Bible Study Groups. “If anyone says, ‘I love
God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his
brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this
commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his
brother.” 1 John 4:20-21
These are four important reasons for
connecting to a Bible Study Group. Please look at the Bible Study Group
listing on this website and begin exploring which group is best for
you. Visit as many of these groups on Sunday mornings as you would
like. Pray and ask God to show you in which group you should connect.
To a significant extent, your development as a Christ-follower depends
on how well you are connected to God’s people.
