CrossPoint Statements

THE CROSSPOINT
STATEMENTS

Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and [that] there be no divisions among you, but [that] you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

1 Corinthians 1:10

WHY WE EXIST AS A CHURCH

The existence of CrossPoint is summarized in a single sentence based on two key scriptures: We believe a strong commitment to the great commandment and the great commission will grow a HEALTHY CHURCH.

Teacher, which [is] the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ “This is [the] first and great commandment. “And [the] second [is] like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ “On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Matthew 22:36-40

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, “teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, [even] to the end of the age.” Amen.

Matthew 28:18-20

Therefore, we exist as a church to MAKE DISCIPLES who LOVE the Lord.

OUR MODEL FOR DISCIPLEMAKING

We discover our model for the church in these five statements:

1. Love the Lord your God with all your heart… is to CELEBRATE God’s presence through WORSHIP.

2. Love your neighbor as yourself… is to DEMONSTRATE God’s love through MINISTRY.

3. Go and make disciples… is to COMMUNICATE God’s word through OUTREACH.

4. Baptize… is INCORPORATE God’s people into His FELLOWSHIP.

5. Teach Them All Things… is to EDUCATE God’s people in DISCIPLESHIP.

OUR VISION FOR DISCIPLEMAKING

To be brief, CrossPoint’s vision is JUST ONE MORE.

To be more specific, CrossPoint’s vision is as follows:

CrossPoint exists to honor God by reaching JUST ONE MORE to become a fully devoted follower of Christ.

Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Luke 15:10

OUR PROCESS FOR DISCIPLEMAKING

To be brief, CrossPoint’s process is to CONNECT.

To be more specific, CrossPoint exists to honor God by reaching JUST ONE MORE to become a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ to CONNECT

…with GOD

…with GOD’S PEOPLE

…with GOD’S PLAN

HOW TO CONNECT TO THE DISCIPLEMAKING PROCESS

First, I must CONNECT with GOD, through Jesus Christ.

And when the multitudes heard [this,] they were astonished at His teaching. But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. Then one of them, a lawyer, asked [Him a question,] testing Him, and saying, “Teacher, which [is] the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ “This is [the] first and great commandment. “And [the] second [is] like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ “On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Matthew 22:34-40

I CONNECT with GOD through Jesus Christ and I express my relationship through worship.

A. PERSONAL time of worship.

AS the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

Psalm 42:1-2

B. CORPORATE time of worship.

I WAS glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the LORD.”

Psalm 122:1

Next, I must CONNECT with GOD’S PEOPLE.

11 This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him. 13 So I ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for you, which is your glory. 14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,…

Ephesians 3:11-14

Why should I CONNECT with God’s people through Bible study?

1. To STUDY God’s Word.

15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15

2. To ENCOURAGE one another.

24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Hebrews 10:24-25

3. To FELLOWSHIP with one another.

7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 1:7

4. To LOVE one another.

20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.

1 John 4:20-21

CrossPoint must be growing SMALLER while we are growing LARGER.

Finally, I must CONNECT with GOD’S PLAN.

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:16-20

I CONNECT with God’s Plan by…

1. IDENTIFYING MY MINISTRY in the church.

10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 4:10-11

2. DISCOVERING MY MISSION in the world.

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:8
